Reflections

Me, The Writer:

  • I do not think I ever had a writing identity. My writing was inspired through the literature that we read in school and the essay topics we had to write them.

  • As I have progressed as a writer, I have come to the realization that my writing identity is one that enjoys to have a moral/teaching in my writing. I personally enjoy reading pieces that I can relate to and that has a moral attached so I have been trying to do the same.
  • I am not quite sure what Genre my pieces would fall under. One could say it is drama because my blog is embedded with my perspectives on  life situations.
  • My ideas are inspired through the challenges that I had to face in my  lifetime. Or they are inspired from thoughts or opinions that someone has told me or what I have heard.
  • My structure includes having statement, questions and in a way my own opinion on the issue.
  • My style and voice of the piece is completely determined on what I am writing and how if feel about the piece. Usually, the style and voice presented in my writings have been serious.
  • I am guilty of not going back and looking for GUMPS. I know how important it is to go back and check for mistakes; however, it just seems like so much work. Especially when you have just taken an hour or two to finish the piece.
  • When writing this reflection, I had to google “how to you describe the different between voice and style in writing.” After reading may pages, I have come to the conclusion that the style represented in my writing contains questions and short, straight to the point sentences. Whereas my voice sounds sad, emotional and kind of like an old person. My pieces always come of as if I am trying to give the world knowledge about stuff. Hence, maybe I sound like an old wise women.
  • As a mentor writer, my advice to  future writers is to write from your heart. This is a place where you get to discover yourself so take the opportunity and write whatever you feel like writing. Write from your heart.
  • My future goal is trying to discover who I am and being happy. As cliche as it sounds, it is something that I really want to achieve in life. If I continue to write on my blog, which I hopefully will, I would continue to write pieces with moral and advise. Sadly there is no great story why I enjoy writing such pieces, it is  just something I enjoy.

Me, The Blogger:

  • Before this class, I had never ever blogged before. It was just something I did not find interesting. Even at first when Ms.Hunniset said “we are going to create blogs for you guys,” I was like “ehhh.” However, I am glad I did it because it let me write about things I needed to get off my chest. It was like another way to release what I was thinking or stuff that was bothering me.
  • As a blogger, I think I wrote many inspirational pieces or pieces that everyone could relate to. I believe I was good at this because I would take a general topic and write about it. I would also put my own perspectives which I guess could make it unique and inspirational. However, like I mentioned before, I do not go back and edit my work. That is one thing I would fix.
  • After this course, I am going to keep my blog. Now that I have more times on my hands I think Im going to change the aesthetics of it and try to at least write one piece a month. Just a piece written from my heart.
  • I would continue to follow Daania’s blog because I would want to see all the places she is going to go. But in all honesty, I think I would follow more of the grade 11’s to see how their writing changes. For me it is exciting to see how the grow as a writer because they are already so good at it. I am ready to be in awe. (no pressure)
  • Outside of our classroom’s blog, I have never explored any one else’s blog. I just never thought about it..oops.

Me, The Student:

  • “Aha” moments for me was whenever I got a topic that was assigned in class and I had to write about it. Usually, the topics we had to do in class were so bizarre and “out  of the blue” topics that I just loved writing about them. Usually as I am writing I get more ideas which then gets me all excited. Like for example, when we were writing fiction pieces and  used The Girl with The Pearl Earring paining as inspiration, that was my favourite one to write. I just had so many ideas scribbled all over my page. It was an exciting time.
  • As a reader I have not accomplished a lot. With the course work it becomes difficult to find time to read; however, before university starts, I have a list of books I want to read. One of them bing Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. As a writer, it is important to read. Not only does it help with your vocabulary and diction but it gives you inspiration and a wide range of topics that you could write about.
  • The biggest accomplishment that I have done as a writer is written a poem. I honestly feel like this was a huge accomplishment for me because I struggle with poetry. Like I just do not know how to write it. However, after writing this piece, I first felt relieved and then I was happy. My plan is to continue to challenge myself by writing poems.
  • I would take creative writing again because it is fun class. I enjoy how it has challenged me to become a better writer. Somedays it feels like a lot of work but it is honestly a great experience.
  • My next steps to improve as a writer is to read more.

Me, The Fan:

The advice that published authors give has changed my writing for the better. Advice such has just write, get all your ideas on the paper even if it horrible, just write it and then go back and edit it. I think that has really helped me because it made me feel more relax when writing.

I am glad that I did Dr.Seuss and I honestly would not change it. His books are the first books I started to read and I always found his stories so much fun and inspirational. He has always been an inspiration to me because he was able to tell his story without it being too long. It gets straight to the point and it uses fun rhymes and nonsense characters. From Dr.Seuss I learned that is more important to tell a good story than a true story. You do not need to use a thousand words to tell a story, it can be in fifty words or less. I always revisit Dr.Seuss books because I enjoy how his non-sense ways. For me it is a light read.

I am a fan of Victoria’s blog. The aesthetics are beautiful and her pieces are beautifully written. When reading her blog, there is flow and her pieces are so unique. My favourite post of hers is the the letter she has written to herself. It is beautifully written and it has so much emotion.  I was in awe when reading this piece.

Masooma’s poems are amazing. I love her as a writer because her writing is relatable and uses the perfect word to describe what she wants.

I love Daania and her love for wanting to travel the world.  I love how when she is writing reflections on plays or movies, she uses a calm and unbiased perspective while writing about her own opinion. She does it in a clever way.

Me, The Critic of My Own Work

My favourite three pieces I have written are the following:

  • A Woman

In this piece I described how a woman is seen in this world. However, when reading this piece you will discover that we, women, will not accept the way that the world chooses to see us. I am proud of the way I described how woman are seen to the world and I am proud how inspirational it becomes towards the end, when it becomes a piece of a woman who rejects what society wants and goes on to conquer great things. This piece was inspired after reading some of Rupi Kaur’s poems online. I wanted to use the idea and woman and make it something inspirational.

  • Distract Yourself

Another piece I am proud of because I was able to be really vulnerable about my thoughts on emotions and reality. Although, I am proud that I was able to be that vulnerable, it was also a challenge for me to be that vulnerable  on a public blog.

  • Omnipresent

Omnipresent – the act of being everywhere all the time. In this piece, I tried to personify the idea of omnipresent by describing thoughts that constantly run through people’s head. I think writing this as a poem was my biggest challenge; however, it is a challenge I managed to overcome. I am proud of this piece because it is the first proper poem I have written.
